© 2016 Casey O'Loughlin Academy of Irish Dance

The Casey O'Loughlin Academy of Irish Dance was founded in Calgary over ten years ago by former Riverdance lead dancer and champion Irish Dancer, Cara Casey-O'Loughlin. Shortly after, Cara was joined by her husband, international Irish Dance champion and former 'Riverdance' dance captain, Mark O'Loughlin, and the pair have been teaching Irish Dancing to hundreds of children in Calgary ever since. In the last decade, the dance school has achieved many accolades both on the international competitive scene and locally performing in many shows. To date, the dance school has had first-place finishes at a regional level, first-place finishes in North America, and achieved a historic

2nd place finish at the first-ever World Irish Dance championships held in Canada.

Outside the competitive scene, The Casey O'Loughlin Irish dancers have performed all over the country, most notably on stage with the Riverdance cast at the Jubilee Auditorium, and with the renowned Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra at the Jack Singer Concert Hall.

We are a competitive school that is proud to have consistently produced top Irish dancers since we opened our doors over a decade ago. Saying that - having fun and enjoying Irish dancing is just as important! Our goal is to raise successful Irish dancers that make life long friends, and families that support each other on their Irish dance journey.

The Casey O'Loughlin Academy is registered with the official governing body of Irish Dance

An Coimisiun le Rince Gaelacha (CLRG)

INSTRUCTORS

CARA CASEY-O'LOUGHLIN ADCRG

Born in Calgary to an Irish Immigrant father and Canadian mother, at a young age, Cara fell in love with Irish dancing and decided she had to pursue it. By the age of 7, she was dancing at an international level. Cara was uncontested Western Canadian Champion for many years and consistently placed among the top three of the North American Championships. She had many successes along the way, the most memorable placing 3rd at the All-Ireland Championships in 2003.  In 2002, Cara was asked to perform the lead role with a small Irish show that toured New Zealand for two months. When she returned, she was prompted to audition for "Riverdance the show". She joined in September of 2003 and at the end of the first year, at the age of 18, was asked to begin training for the role of principal dancer. Cara has performed to sold-out houses in major U.S. cities including New York, Los Angeles, Boston and Las Vegas — just to name a few. Also, she has appeared on television numerous times most notably, Good Morning America.  After touring with Riverdance for two and a half years, Cara has been working with young dancers and aims to give back to Irish Dance for all the amazing opportunities that it has offered her. In 2007, Cara received her T.C.R.G. certification from An Coimisiun le Rince Gaelacha and is fully accredited to teach competitive Irish dancing. In 2017, Cara received her A.D.C.R.G. certification — meaning she is a fully accredited adjudicator for competitive Irish dance.

MARK O'LOUGHLIN ADCRG

Born into a family of Irish dance teachers and adjudicators in London, England, Mark started dancing at 3 years of age for the world-renowned Griffin Roddy O'Loughlin School of Irish Dance. He quickly excelled and soon won his first Great Britain Championship at the age of 9. Mark later went on to win 3 more Great Britain titles, 4 British National titles and placed consistently in the top 4 at the World Irish Dance Championships. Mark was also a member of several World Championship winning ceili and figure teams. After a successful competitive career, Mark toured with 'Riverdance the Show' for five years.  He has toured all over three continents with the highlight being a 10-year anniversary performance at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. In 2007, Mark was promoted to Dance Captain, which involved the training and rehearsing of the entire dance troupe whilst keeping an exceptional standard of performance in the company. His other performance credits include Celtic Masters, Gaelforce Dance, Canada AM and Disney. In 2010, Mark received his T.C.R.G. certification from An Coimisiun le Rince Gaelacha and is fully accredited to teach competitive Irish dancing. In 2019, Mark received his A.D.C.R.G. certification — meaning he is a fully accredited adjudicator for competitive Irish dance.
